History Details For - Charles Lee1/31/1731A former officer in the British army, Lee was the 2nd highest ranking officer in the early years of the revolution in the Continental Army. During much of 1776, Lee tried to take control of the army from Washington when the continentals were losing battles in their retreat from Long Island through White Plains and New Jersey. Lee might have been successful had it not been for his capture in December, 1776.
Lee was eventually exchanged for a British general, but his exploits were after his capture were less than he had hoped to gain. Links:
