History Details For - Minorca

2/5/1782
During the allies seige of Gibraltar, the Spanish-French allies landed 14000 troops on Minorca, another British held island in the Western Mediterranean. The French under the command of Louis De Crillon quickly overran most of the island. The naval base at Port Mahon held for 6 months with 1000 men under the command of General James Murray.

After 6 months, disease and combat had weakened the British enough to surrender the final 660 men fit for duty. Minorca was ceded to Spain with the signing of the peace treaty ending the Revolution.
