History Details For - Flamborough Head9/23/1779Off the coast of Flamborough Head in Yorkshire, the most famous naval battle of the war took place. Captain John Paul Jones aboard his ship the Bonhomme Richard battled 2 English frigates, the Serapis and the Countess of Scarborough.
The battle took nearly 3 and a half hours to fight. The Americans lashed the Bonhomme Richard to the Serapis and began firing from the rigging above. The British captain finally surrendered, the Americans boarded the Serapis since the Richard was in flames and eventually sank the next day. Links:
