History Details For - Stony Point

7/15/1779
On June 1, 1779 the British took this incomplete fort, located near Peekskill, from the Americans. General Anthony Wayne with a force of 1350 men attacked the fort using only bayonettes on the night of July 15th. The battle took most of the night with the Americans victorious at around dawn. 63 British were killed, 70 wounded with 543 being captured. The Americans lost only 15 killed and 80 wounded.
