History Details For - Lexington and Concord4/19/1775The first battles of the American Revolution. These battles occured when British troops garrisoned in Boston marched into the Massachussets countryside in search of arms and gunpowder. A troop of so-called Minutemen assembled in the town green of Lexington were fired on by British trrops early on the monring of April 19, 1775. The Minutemen dispursed after having xx killed or wounded.
The British troops under Major Pitcairn marched to Concorde where they were turned back by colonials that had begun to assemble in Concorde. The americans fired on the British as they attempted to cross the Concorde bridge. A running battle ensued for much of the day as the Americans chased the British all the way back to Charlestowne. Thousands of shots were fired on the constantly retreating British, there were 73 killed and scores wounded along the way.
